See if you can match the sound clip to the guitar. I'll admit I was lazy and some have more recent string change than others, but not by much. I'd say around 10 hours of play difference. The brightest sounding actually has the oldest set. Anyway ...

    Here are the five guitars:

    #1 - Epi LP Special 1, with Tyson Tone Wraptail 57 P90
    [IMG]

    #2 - First Act ME951, with SX P90
    [IMG]

    #3 - G400 Vintage, with Gibson P94
    [IMG]

    #4 - Epi 61 SG reissue, with stock P90
    [IMG]

#5 - Jay Turser JT50 Custom, with Guitar Madness P94
    [IMG]

And the five tracks to match:

    Track #1:

    Track #2: http://soundcloud.com/drbgood/2a-2
    Track #3:

    Track #4: http://soundcloud.com/drbgood/4a-1
    Track #5: http://soundcloud.com/drbgood/5a-1

I'll give you ... the week-end, to make your mind.

    Copy & paste this:

    Track# = guitar#
    Track# = guitar#
    Track# = guitar#
    Track# = guitar#
    Track# = guitar#

I have no idea. I have no experience in the P90 P94 world yet. I'm thinking about buying a Tele with P90s.

A lot of variables here, but a fun idea...

    Track#1 = guitar#4
    Track#2 = guitar#5
    Track#3 = guitar#1
    Track#4 = guitar#3
    Track#5 = guitar#2

I'll never guess them, but I like 1 & 3 the best. In my speakers, #1 has the most balanced, fullest sound, top, bottom, and middle.

For me track #2 is the standout.
    Track #5 next.
The other 3 don't get my attention.

Even I couldn't pick them out without any reference. But your answers are interesting, you'll be surprised Sunday PM.

I will make another one without chords after that.

Will I be surpised because I got them all correct?

On the contrary and most liked tracks are the cheapest pickups.

The exercice is actually a little futile, them pickups being so close sounding one to the other. I'm sure by tweaking the EQ, I could make them all sound exactly the same.

Most of what we do on this forum is less than productive. There must be 8,000 - 10,000 words written tone caps alone. But somehow, it keeps us coming back. Long live rock and roll!

I picked sound 4 as the Gibson P94s, as I thought in some ways it was the most sterile and least lively sound. I then choose number 1 as the other, but much better, P94 sounding guitar. The others, errrm, I just went with the brightest and most different sounding as the single pickup guitar. Then, of the two left, I thought the Epi pickup was likely to sound a bit less complete than the Tyson Tone which I thought (clip 3) sounded the most P90ish without being too brash.

Having said that, they all sounded nice in their own way, quite different at times, quite similar at times; there was a wide variety of sameness and difference within each sound clip (when compared to any other sound clip).

I am now, thoroughly confused... :D:io:

I perfomed complex calculations based on certain variables which included

    # of pots
    Tightness of wood grain
    Body thickness
    Bridge material
    Bridge type
    Pickup pole piece height
Pickup cover material (since plastic causes microphonics and low end frequency loss)
    Glossiness of finish
The presence or absence of stickers (which affect body vibration and sustain)
Inlay size (larger inlays reduce wood vibration transference and thus reduce sustain)
Inlay material (mother of pearl increases high end -plastic sucks...tone)
    Color (red goes faster)

I cannot share my formula until I have it registered with the copyright office.

I was thinking about the Strat version. I own 2 Furrian Teles. They can be made into real players.
