Just dropped the hammer on a Washburn MX:1 Metalhead pedal today. Pics are courtesy of Effects Database. Never knew they existed until about a week ago. Not much info on them, except one or maybe two (good) reviews scattered among the web.
It's in 'like new' condition, and should prove to be an interesting device to use. washburn_mx-1_001.jpg washburn_mx-1_002.jpg

& why not??? Once you get it, do a quick review for us!

That does look very 80s indeed.

Yes indeed. I'll post more pic's of the "actual pedal" once it arrives too. The original box is included also. I'll be comparing it to the DOD FX70P Big Pig and FX86B Death Metal pedal's I currently use....and the Glen Burton HM-80 (Metal Zone clone, more or less), just for fun

I wonder if that's a Boss knockoff or if they used their own circuit.

Could be this Washburn MX:1 is patterned after the HM-2 maybe? That's what I thought when I noticed it was a 4-knob pedal with a 2-band EQ. The component's used, and component value's may be a bit different.

Here's an update.....This pedal arrived this morning. It is exactly what I expected.
Being that it is about 30 year's old, and in almost new condition, it function's properly. It's more like a "heavy OD", or a "Classic Metal" distortion....not the insane gain buzzsaw thing like my 2 DOD pedals, which I dearly love. The Washburn Metalhead nails NWOBHM sound=Judas Priest/Iron Maiden/Saxon/Riot through my low gain 5 watt tube combo plugged into my 2x12. I'm sure if you-or-I plug it into the dirt input on a high gain tube head, the old school Swede death metal sound (Dismember, Entombed) will easily be achieved.
This pedal let's the tube goodness shine through. Not fuzzy or can-O-bees.
I like it a lot, because I wanted a period correct pedal for '80's metal sound  .kevins camera 133.jpg .kevins camera 132.jpg

Further sound testing today revealed great results. All I had to do was turn the treble knob back to 6 is all. Bass is still maxed, as is the distortion. Lost track of time too....what seemed like an hour of playing was actually 1.5 hours. It loves the grey Dano-flake strat-copy w/single ceramic HB. Blues to rock to metal=it's a good old pedal :D

You know what I love? How technology grows by leaps and bounds, then gets to a point where everyone says, "Too much!" and then goes back to old-school. Telephones got smaller and smaller til they got too small, now bigger phones with bigger buttons are a selling point.

Seems to be the same with guitar gear, while classic gear has always had a following; bigger, better, badder effects kept trumping each other throughout 80's and 90's to today. Then someone takes a look back and re-discovers something that worked and it's new all over again. Sweet find, rock the F&^% out of it!

    Gear-wise, to me it's still 1999, lol.

Yeah that Big Pig FX70P might be pink, but it is rather devastating (like the FX86B Death Metal). I just tell folk's I'm not homophobic LOL
