Hello, i got a sg showcase edition 1988, I LOVE the lute-making but the 3 emg's sound is to heavy for me, i' m big fan of vintage sound (who, kinks, stones,blues...)and especially P-90's sound (hot, crunch, fuzzy,...). I just read and heard about the P-94's and would like to know if it's a good choice to replace my emg? And if it is, should i put 2 or 3 P-94? Thanks
if you're after the who/kinks sound 3 p94 is definitely the way to go! i mounted humbucker sized p90s on my sg too and never turned back. and welcome to ETSG, tutur
P-94's sound unreal, and look awesome. I'd never played them till I bought my SGJ, and man... I can't believe the tones out of these pickups. Instant classic rock, blues, jazz... they sound GREAT clean, and take overdrive and fuzz amazingly well. Only issues are a little more hum than with a standard Strat single-coil. But with a decent noise gate, it's not an issue.
Pretty rare guitar. How about some pics! I don''t think I could mod it. http://www.everythingsg.com/index.php/custom-showcase.html
200 for the US and 50 for the rest of the world. I have one and because of the rarity I wouldn't think of modding it. Why not get a regular production model and mod that ?
i know if i owned it, wanted to play it, and like the sound, id change the pups out for sure...hold onto them, and switch them back if he were to sell it later....thats just me, and my dislike for EMG's
