Dear SG-freaks,

For about 1 year ago I asked if someone could specify my SG and what year it was build, also see:

http://everythingsg.com/forum/index.php?topic=16347.0

New information:
-it's probably build in '75 or '76 because Gibson used a sticker/ "decall" then for the serialnumber on the headstock (Gibson info), you can see the glue of the decall on the enclosed picture.
-with the help of a magnifying glass I saw that on three of the four potmeters was written "70 028". I can't read more
because of the dots of solder on the rest of the numbers.
-the width of the neck at the first nut is 4 cm.

Looking forward to any usefull information!

Kind regards,
Slayer.

It's either a renecked '73-up Special or a '73-up Special factory second with the wrong neck put on at the factory. The sticker was probably from whoever did the work and/or refinish. Pot codes should be 137-yy-ww.

A '70 would not have the the fretboard so close to the neck pickup and would have the ABR-1 bridge instead of the Schaller harmonica bridge. The '70 Special had dots and the standard trapezoidal inlays on the fretboard. A '70 volute was not that ornate and prominent. The '69 volute was barely a bump.

No matter what someone wrote on the control cavity cover or even what the pot codes may say, there is no way that the guitar you have is a '69-'70 unless it was HEAVILY modified (ie different neck pocket and fretboard).

Thank you TNT,

It must be a 73 up Special indeed. And I think with a wrong neck out of the factory because I can't see any serious damages on the transition between neck and body (except for some beltwear) and there is no difference between colour and structures (see the pics).

The 73' catalogue puts it quite clear.
The catalogue also mentions the possibility of a Bigsby vibrato, as you can see on my enclosed pic my SG also must have had a vibrato.

Kind regards,
Slayer.

it could quite possibly be a '75 Special due to the harmonica bridge.

perhaps someone decided to add in the flowerpot inlay later?

also i cant help but notice the 3 circled dots in this pic of yours.
are they screw holes? evidence of a previous small guard perhaps?
