I'm seriously thinking about getting one. With a lot of stuff that Ive read on here, it seems that the quality and craftmanship of current SG models has really gone down. And i cant believe Gibson took PRS to court over the single cutaway model. bunch of bastards. I really think Gibson is taking the piss.

PRS on the whole is no better. Too big. Try Hamer USA, they still make em one at a time, very carefully up there. Heritage is also the same way.

    Welcome to the ETSG!

SG quality, I'd say on the average, taken the whole line, is quite good. If you read what people bitch about, its not the guitar so much as the setup.

When I was a kid, getting 40 off list was the standard discount, and they set the guitar up for you with that.

Now the fancy schmancy big box care less stores think you're being pampered at 30 off and the setup is on top of that.

Don't blame Gibson (or PRS). They intentionally set them up sorta bad. They have to be at least "playable" on arrival at a dealer. Ideal setup would risk an unplayable guitar at arrival, since climatic changes occur.

Blame yourself, Mr John Q Public, for accepting crap service and pricing from greedy merchants.

So how about THAT Mr. Smartypants Communist, Mr. College Professor, Mr. Beatnick, Mr. Hippy !

PRS SE Soapbar 2................I absolutely love it. If I had some cash to shell out, I'd own one.

Played on at a local music shop through the same amp model I use at home and it sounds great! P90's absolutely ripped, and actually sounded quite nice and warm too.

Yea, Gibson sueing PRS is kinda sucky. I have a PRS Tremonti SE which is single cut and is absolutely great. Now you can't get them anymore. It's ridiculous. I'm glad my girlfriend got me mine when she did. They've since gone up in price about 100-200 dollars on Ebay......used! I don't plan on selling mine since it's so nice, so the price-hike really doesn't benefit me. I'd rather see other people enjoying what I am lucky enough to know is a great guitar!

Can't we all just get along and share....?

I bought a 2004 SG Special in December. I think the quality is very high.

I am in the minority, but I really don't like the PRS necks. I don't know what it is about them, but they just don't feel good in my hands. I have play at least 10 different examples of the Soapbar I and II and I just don't like the neck. The quality on all of them I have played has been very good.

I own a prs soapbar se and its a very good guitar pups sound cool and the quality is really good for the money compared to my sg classic though I don,t think its as good and the neck does take some getting used too. All in all though they,re pretty good
