Real or Fake 70's SG?

Bought this in 2000 for $650. No serial number. I've heard that some 70s SGs had sticker serial numbers so maybe?

Pots were replaced in 1989 or later, based on serial numbers and soldering work. The volume and tone knobs are not original, because I replaced them. A previous owner removed a Bigsby or something like it and replaced it with a stop bar.

Plays pretty well. Has a very thin neck.

a pic of the headstock would be nice.

Yes, especially if it doesn't have "Gibson" on it. :)

I notice no "Made in USA" or serial number.

I appears to be authentic-Id say its a '73 or so-the non beveled cutaways, paddle head, wide bridge and logo pups date it to '71-73. The lack of serial number is due to the poor refinish job-that guitar has been extensively sanded and the Gibson branded bigsby removed.....

That makes a lot of sense, down to the volute and short neck tenon.

looked real to me too and nice looking guitar. Some of those 70s gibsons are real sleepers that play great and don't cost a fortune like the 60s versions.

I'd say its real just based on the fact that all the features are correct and that you don't really see a whole lot of fakes from this era, but you do see a lot of variability between instruments.

Maybe it was refinished at some point and the serial number was sanded off? This seems especially likely considering the guitar has obviously had other things done to it during its lifetime.

I bet very few fakers are going to make Norlin models when it's the 60's SG's that command $$$$

It looks like the real thing to me. You might be able to read the serial number by using an Ultra Violet or Infra Red light.

Hard to say... But on another note, that "d" string tuning machine looks a bit off center!!! But if it's the real deal, you got yourself a bargain! Well done!
