Hey!
I'm looking to kinda do what it takes to get the SG I really want. Or one of the SG's I really want, and that's a black, lightly reliced- or rather well used and properly worn SG junior with a nice lightbrown (sun-tanned) tortoise pickguard. The problem is that the only jr I can get my hands on has the vintage cherry finish. And that is beautiful, I agree, but I still want my black SG, and also I want a project.
So my question is this and it concerns refinishing and relicing.
- If i want my black nitro lacquer to be reliced and don't mind the cherry coming through a tiny bit here and there, do I still need to sand the guitar down completely and redo the entire lacquering process? Or is it enought to just get the clear coat off and work from there? Or even better, has anyone gone through a procedure like this and has maybe some un-reinventing the wheel input for me that they can share cause I'm a fish in the desert at this point.
Thanx in advance!
