Hi guys I,m new here so treat me gently  Tomorrow I,ll (hopefully) take delivery of an sg classic I already own a standard but I,ve always wanted one with p90s in. Only problem is the tuners I hate the little plastic button (I have a j45 with the same ones) I,m sure they,ll work fine but I,d like to change em any ideas as to which ones to go for and whether I,ll have to do any mods? Thanks in advance guys 8)

Welcome to the forum. Let me guess: you're a Paul Weller fan?

I have a classic and I agree with you .. the thing is the white ones are the same as the more traitional tulip shaped mechanically so a set from a standard should be a direct drop in replacement and look better to boot ( gibson deluxe tuners that is)

Welcome Heliotrope. Congratulations on selecting a fine guitar :)

I don't know much about the newer Grovers, or Gotoh copies, but personally I prefer the look and feel of the older kidney-button Grovers. Both of my 1960s SGs had them fitted when I bought them. This was a common mod to many Gibsons in the 60s and 70s. There is usually a good reason for a modification as popular as this one was..... ;)

One drawback is that Grovers make the guitar slightly more "neck" heavy, I have found.

But then, I also like the look of Klusons as well.... just prefer Grovers.

    A few things to consider....

You may need to ream the peghead to accept better tuners.

I think the keystone tuners (gibson, great quality) would probably cover the existing slight indentation and screw holes best... but I cant vouch for the spaciing. Judge that from lookin' at the tuners on your standard.
