Yes indeed, but that is for DeCoop to tell you about.

I too got to know Rory fairly well through Touring and even Supporting him on quite a few Gigs.

Yup, I heard him first in 1969 and never went to see him live
and I still regret it. He played like no other and from what I
understand, was a true gentleman too.

I still can't believe he doesn't get the recognition he deserves!

If there was ONE guitarist I could play like, it would be him.......

I saw him when I was in my teens, still remember it now, he just seemed to love every minute of being on stage - totally infectious

    Tell us more, Lex
    Any tales?
    Any pix?

Sadly....all pix went the way of everything that was around in the days of my Late Ex Wife.
Every damn thing from My Past got erased in less than 24 hours.
Something which I BITTERLY Regret as I had at one time a Fantastic collection of Photos and memorabilia from a very Misspent Youth.

    Tales....Plenty. :)
    Happy Memories...Certainly.

OK....a quick example of just WHAT Rory was about?

The Venue was Chalk Farm Roundhouse. We had Opened and had finished our Set and there was no sign of Rory or the Band. His Gear was Set Up but the Guitar, Bass and Musicians were nowhere to be seen. Suddenly they raced in through th Main Doors and shot down the aisle aiming for the Stage. A Guy stopped Rory and had a very quick conversation with him during which Rory produced a Pen and scribbled something down on the Guys Program, then Ran On Stage and played a totally Blistering Set.

Afterwards when the Gear was being loaded back in to various Vans, Gerry, Rory's Bass Player asked what the Guy had wanted?
Rory smiled and said....."Oh, he has been trying to learn "Used To Be" and I just scribbled out the Chords for him".

There you go.....Late.....Crowd baying for him to get on stage and play, but Rory took the time and effort to help out a Fan. ;)

The roundhouse - the nearest I every got there was playing a gig at the Dublin Castle just down the road.

Is that Gerry McAvoy? As far as I know he is now playing with Nine Below Zero (or he was last time I saw them). What a band - what a player!!!!

That was indeed Gerry McAvoy. Another Superb Guy. What is it I wonder about ALL the players that worked with Rory, either in Taste or The "R.G Band"? Just some of the most uncomplicated and "nice" people........Just like their Boss...though he would NEVER have called himself that. It was ALWAYS "The Band" this and "The Band" that.

The only Guy that I have ever met that has left such a totally indelible mark on me. I didn't "know" Rory as well as some, but I still Cried Buckets when I heard the tragic news of his death.

    Ho Hum....... :coolsmiley:

If you want to know what Gerry McAvoy and Brendan O'Neill are doing now, here you go:

    http://www.ninebelowzero.com/index.html

I have seen Nine Below Zero many times from the late seventies to now. They have never played anything less than a storming gig. If they play anywhere near where you live (they seem to live on the road!), I can't recommend them enough!!!
