Ya'll may be screaming into a windstorm. I don't know for sure, but the possibility exists that the new format software may not even support importing the reference material from the old format. Whereas I do actually like the new format, this may be an unintended negative consequence.

Alex will need to comment more on that himself as I am just theorizing.

It's apples and oranges. The old format was just a regular webpage (where all the reference info lived) with a link to the forum (where the software lived). Two separate entities. The same can be configured for any webpage and forum software combination or...maybe, for simplicity, there can just be a subforum here for the reference material (assuming all the pics and info were backed up)?

I understand. That makes sense to me. Thanks, Hammer.

"Unintended negative consequence" Somehow, my logical mind says that someone should have made every attempt to leave a back door access to such valuable data. Much like backing up files on your computer before your darn hard drive crashes, why could someone not create a place where that reference data was duplicated and readily re-accessible to everyone before this change of forum took place?

Well, Chili, from Hammer's response, I can see that my theory holds no water.

So, we're back to where we were.

Maybe it's still in progress...

Maybe they did and we are just not privy to the info at this time. There are a lot of behind the scenes tweaks and whatnot that go into this process, so I'm sure Alex is up to his ears with it. I've got to think he has all the info backed up somewhere...you just don't make a leap like this without doing so. Maybe he has a plan in his back pocket for the old info, maybe not. I miss it all, as does most everyone else, but I'm sure we'll hear something either way eventually. Until then:

I would surly hope so. I know that I always back up ALL FILES and DATABASE whenever I do any work on a site just in case something goes wrong, I can get back to where I started from. I will guess that Alex has moved to another server that he runs all of his sites on. Perhaps he copied all the files... I hope so. Purchasing a domain web site like this and not keeping all of the critical data would be like throwing the baby out with the bath water. There was a plethora of valuable information regarding the SG which is what brought me here 4 years ago.

I have actually planned on copying all of the information off of the wayback machine before anymore gets lost.

I will work on getting the resources back this week. They were lost during the upgrade.

Awesome!!!! That is great news Alex. I might not be able to take much more good news this week.

Had my laptop Hard drive crash on me a couple months ago and resigned myself to having to live without the data I lost ($800 estimate) to recover data
Bought some ebay replacement Hd's and had a buddy load it plus Win8 and am up and running again.

NOW, to be able to enjoy and preserve the data about our SG guitar's forefathers from days gone by is also great news.
Thanks Alex.

Ugh, I hate win8. You may want to invest in a USB back up drive. I got a 4TB one for $150 and have all my important files backed up daily.

Wav, I hate win8 too. But for a $23 HD and my offer to treat my friend and his wife to dinner for getting me up and running again, It is worth it. My old HD had Win 7 on it and I definitely liked that better. I plan to take one of the other spare HD's I got and get one of these.... to back up my Laptop from now on.

Win 10 will be coming out soon. Looks like they will just pass on win 9.

BTW, thank you Alex for looking into the SG archives.
