Just someone who doesn’t have SG knowledge I suppose.

Hey look, I single cut-away SG, with a prototype pick guard.

My bet: 2016 Special Faded T w/490's ? IIRC, it wasn't shield painted in the control cavity.

if thats it....GC sold 'em for $543, all-in, in May 2017 @ Guitar-a-thon, some people are trying, probably getting, $1K for em now...not me..and the one I played was the most acoustically dead sounding Gibson I ever heard/played/bought/sold.....Plugged in, it had some Mojo, semi-chubby Voluted neck was cool too.Definite great daily beat the hell out of type guitar.

it also needed to be shielded @ Toggle-Switch/Control cavity, static-popped like it had a case of the farts.Might have been the dundgeon I was living in, IDK.

No such thing as SG Studio.

    That's an SG Special Faded.
Some time in 2010's they shortened the name to SG Faded.
None of the SG Special Faded had volutes.

I had a few SG Special Faded in the past.
    Added pup covers to them.
    Changed the knobs to reflectors.

The SG Special 2016 T has a volute.
Had a couple in the past.
The cherry one had the Mini Humbuckers swapped for P-90's.

All mine had chubby rounded necks.
    It's a prerequisite when I purchase a guitar.

You stated : "none had Voluted necks', then the 2016 'has a Volute....."......IDK if you know, or not, but I surely do....
My 2016 Gibson SG Special Faded T w/Batwing PG and 490 Pickup's (I added chrome covers as well and a B3 Bigsby for a while, just for laughs and aesthetics!) had a fairly chubby neck and it definitely had a Volute, it was clear as the big ass wort on my shoulders. I've a picture of the Li'l Mo-Fo around somewhere but its not from the back......
For a budget conscious player or beginner/intermediate it was a great li'l guitar, was almost sad I sold it BUT the 2017 SG Standard I got w/the proceeds of the sale just blew the strings off of it, so I wasn't all too sad it had to hit the bricks.

A little faux volute on Tribute models [IMG]
Sorry, no volutes on these 2016 Special Ts.
volutes never worked, anyhow and made any headstock repairs that much tougher.

Not sure what exact year it was, but in the 2010's, they renamed the SG Special Faded to SG Faded.

I've had several SG Specials ranging from 1963-2016 and very familiar with the features.

In 2016, there was no SG Special Faded T
There was an SG Faded 2016 T
There was also an SG Special 2016 T

SG Faded 2016 T = Humbuckers, No Volute
SG Special 2016 T = Mini Humbuckers, with Volute

    SG 2016 Faded T - NO Volute

SG 2016 Special T - YES on Volute

SG Specials can be confusing if one is not familiar with them. It's the only SG model out of the original four (Junior, Special, Standard, Custom) that had the most feature changes over the years and was renamed so many times.

They happen to be my favorite, with the SG Classic being my all-time favorite SG ever produced.

IDK, maybe I thought I had a different guitar? BUT...it had a volute...

OR, it could be, and perish the thought, that this could very well mean my DRUG ADDLED BRAIN has failed me AGAIN..... for the 1st time, OMG !
