Hello, I would be more than grateful for advice on finding the closes fret size make for my SG 1974. After only couple re crowning ware over the yrs there’s not much height left. So a re-fret is in order. After so many yrs I am worried how the feel action will change with new wire. I can measure with my callipers whats there now and it plays ok. I doubt the same wire spec is available anyway. So it’s going to be compromise I think.

Of cause everyone has a different feel and wire. My idea is to find out what they fretted with when I purchased the SG from new and go from there. Cheers Thanks for any help advice and thoughts. DonH

Having written to Dan Erlewine he said the 50s Gibson used in those yrs was 0.98” wide. Today he recommended StewMac Wide/Medium. upload_2020-7-26_0-22-28.gif

Id agree with that as being close enough. My 74 sg special was refretted I believe with something in that ballpark.
