Totally agree with you there duane, While my SG feels almost as different from my LP as my Strat, sound wise I can get almost any sound I need from any of them. The guitar is only half the instrument when playing electric, and it is basically an interface for the signal chain that feeds the amp which is where the sound character primarily comes from. You can use the SG for any style of music, but the looks really appeal to rock and roller in all of us. How it actually sounds depends on what you play through and how you set it up.

I completely agree. I use an SG for clean playing quite a bit.
Snake, listen this guy. He is just a fount of knowledge. He also has a good ear, knows a wee bit about good sound and a variety of guitars/ amps to get nice results from them.

Also, I like how you trust your ears and previous experiences.

Col Mustard said, "Guys I know who play at ear crushing levels and stand in a band
in front of an insane drummer can also get the tones they need out of an
SG, especially if it's had its pickups wax potted. IMHO all of the p'ups
you mention are accurate."

When I think of a statement like his, I think of oldies but goodies. Guys like Pete Townshend, Robbie Krueger, and this guy come to mind. Of course some of these guys played P90 SG's too. That is a whole other kind of clean/crunch.
