It seems like some of my strings have put a rut into the little metal placements they sit on on the bridge. Is this normal? I guess I could always replace those pieces.
IMHO, there are several factors that may attribute to this. Age of the guitar, the useage....... The only time I don't see some wear is on the guitar that's not played. Some of my older ones show this kind of wear. Metal will wear out and sometimes replacement is necessary........ Type of strings, style of music, stringing of the guitar may affect it among other things I'm sure others will help on. (Remember, Pete T had a high wear over short term factor on his guitars.............) How old is your guitar and how much do you play it?
I just got it last year and play it daily. Its basically just the little metal part that the string passes over on the bridge. And its basically a string sized, tiny ding that the string put on the metal from the tension. I never really had a guitar w/ this type of bridge set up. I guess since it still plays fine - its okay.
Maybe you're just being a little paranoid, but a hardware upgrade could do some good. Aye, and those little 'metal placements' you speak of are called saddles.
