yep you could look at it that way. also think of cars moving down the highway... with little traffic cars can move very fast. at rush hour cars come to a crawl. so like in my case, being a cable internet user, my entire neighborhood shares the 'road'. when a lot of users are on, it can jam it up. i upgraded to turbo over standard cable so my road is 'wider' thus allowing me to speed thru.

I have dsl, would be cool if everyone posted what they are running, dsl, cable, dial up ect with their test.

I assume this is a decent score for dsl, but I honestly don't know. Xbox runs off this connection via a wireless router and seems to DL demos fast and play very smoothly on xbox live. Although I have seen some sync issues in GTA where I was unable to get into a car with some other players but for the most part it seems good.

I'm happy with my speed on the internet when the kids are sleeping, but man, those online RPGs they play hog the bandwidth. I'm considering going ethernet cable right into the #1 slot on my router, and having the kids being the only wireless computers in the house.

Does anyone know how I can limit the bandwidth used by other people on my network?

That would be a very effective way to cut them down to zero bandwidth, I guess. When they are grounded I tell them to give me their mouse and keyboard :)

I'm hoping for a way to limit them to say, 50% of the available bandwidth, and let them split that three ways, letting me have the other 50% (since I pay the ISP bill and bought all these computers LOL).

How much do you guys pay for the good service though... We pay £20 a month and we get phone line rental, all calls apart from Cellphones and the internet included in that price.

How much do you have to pay to get up to the really good bandwidth (?) im am seeing here?

I have this device that makes my high speed internet cost me $0 a month... it's called a "wife". LOL Make your old lady pay the bill, and don't worry about the price :D
