I've seen a bunch of people here that have their strings going thru and over the tailpiece. I think it looks cool but does it affect tone, sustain what?

I do that, too, on some of my guitars. It changes the angle of the break over the bridge, so it probably affects a few things. For me, it seems to let up on tension a little...but it's probably in my head,

Well, since it was time for a string change I tried the 'over wrap' thing. The most obvious thing I noticed, like you said H2H, is the break angle over the bridge - it's not steep like before which is a good thing I guess. But I can't say that it affected tone in any way, better sustain maybe...don't know really.

Hey, I just replied to my own question :)

The idea with the over wrap is to lower the stop bar so the studs are deeper in the body, or that maybe even the stopbar is fully seated against the body, but still leaving an angle on the strings that clears the back of the bridge.

I dont believe it makes one iota of difference in tone.

  5. i do it for the reason that i break alot less strings that way...dont really notice much difference in the way it plays

i do this. it makes it so the strings dont break as easy, and it does losen the tension. i like it alot.
