I haven't tried the B-DEC, sounds like it might be a good practice amp, but in a band situation, you will need something with more balls. What are your intended uses for the amp?
To start with...a practice amp. If a smaller one could do double duty, that would be great. Probably no command performances for the Queen are in the works.
An Ampeg B100 R is what I use for practice and rehearsals. I believe it would probably handle a small gig; but I use a much larger rig live. The B100 R is a (loud) 100 watt SS unit that many bassists claim sounds very old school and tubey, and I have to agree; to my ears, they sound very good and they look great with the blue tolex.
I've got one of those too. I don't play it much but it is nice to have in the collection. It is a bit pricey when compared to others.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Hughes-Kettner-Quantum-QC310-Bass-Combo?sku=480106 What about this hybrid one for $399. Tube preamp 250 -300 watts depending on source of info. Light weight (40 lbs).
250Watts... dang, you'll windows out with that thumper! ;D Looks like a really nice quality amp! I forgot to mention, I tried out the B-Dec a few weeks ago. For home practice use, that would be my pick. If that was around when I bought the ampeg I would have choosen that instead. It's very nice and most of all, fun!
The guys over at Bass Talk were talking up the great deal on the Hughes & Kettner QC310 so I went ahead and ordered one.
I'll see if the neighbors can hear it when I turn her up.
They might not hear it, but they'll defintaly feel it. You might be able to rattle the china off the shelves with that one.
My SG knocks the books out of the bookcase now. I could play the bass outside...perhaps I could use it to harvest the papayas that are to high to reach easily.
