Because I'm an emotionally fragile millenial snowflake who can't handle negative criticism (ha, just kidding, I totally can, but I'm a perfectionist anyway), I decided to break out the recording equipment anyway and give it a quick go. I replaced the video in my previous post.

About the Vox... I know, I just haven't gotten around to picking one up. When I'm ready to expand the stable, I'll probably pick up a Valvetronix (because Vox amps are the ONLY amps that get the Vox sound right), and an Orange 35RT (because Orange amps are the ONLY amps that get the Orange sound right). Truth be told, I tend to favor a more Marshall sound most of the time though, and the Boss is the best at that within it's price range at this time IMHO.

Yeah better, but not a tone I'm looking for. I like mids in my tone, rounder sound. But that's me.

I prefer a bit more mid-range than what I captured too... Part of the "scoopiness" of the tone here was likely my choice of microphone (which is primarily for vocals and has a slight bass roll-off) and it's positioning (dead-on center of the speaker). I just got stuck a mic on it and hit record; there was a lot more midrange in the room. Still, I think with a little tinkering, it could track very well on a recording.

Also, listening to both YouTube and the original video, there was some compression that ate some of the tone. Durn YouTube.

YouTube's compression algorithms are known to do that.

Got the Katana 100w 1 speaker amp about a month ago and been messing around with it to try and get a Richrath tone. Might be sorta there but was wondering if anyone had hit that sound with one of these using an SG and if so where the knobs and switches ended up. "Roll with the Changes" is a good song for that tone imo.

I don't have the settings but my experience with amp leads me to believe that you will be able to get there with some experimentation.
I'd probably start with the Crunch and add a boost, then EQ to fine tune.

To late. Should receive the head Thursday February 1.

Although the artist is very interesting. I will give the head a go and if I am not happy I just returned and go for the Katana Artist.

From what I've seen, it basically has a Wazacraft speaker and panel-mounted controls for options introduced in the recent firmware update (cab emulation, air, etc.)

To be honest, doesn't seem like enough to justify the increase in price. The Katana 100's speaker is already an absolutely killer unit; can't imagine the Waza unit being that much better. I'm also not convinced the extra panel functionality is all that useful either. I would have liked to see the Artist with an LCD screen and universal scroll wheel where much of the Tone Central functions can be edited on-board (a la Fender Mustang III).

It's also a bigger physical cab.

There's an Anderton's video comparing the two.
Beyond that I don't know what to tell you.

Vox released that non-lunchpail Nu-Tube head finally, but that ain't cheap either.

I watched it. Entertaining as always, but comparing the Artist with an SG and the 100 with a tele-style Reverend with a filtertron neck pickup isn't particularly informative - too many variables introduced to make any real comparison. That said, the fact that I didn't notice any appreciable difference in sound quality between the two is enough to indicate that the Artist might not be worth nearly double the 100's price tag. I'm sure there's probably more low-end grunt in the room with the Artist's bigger cab, but again... You could save money and get more of that from the 212 model, too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see Boss moving upmarket with the Katana technology, but I think they need more than a speaker upgrade a couple more knobs on the control panel to convince me that it's worth the extra dough. From a gigging standpoint, I'd still rather take the 100, the GA-FC, and a handful of pedals over the Artist for that kind of money.

The fact of the matter is neither of us has tried it. The rest is opinion based on second hand info.

Absolutely true. Guess I'll need an excuse to go to my local store and give it a shakedown when they hit shelves! :thumb:

I got the Boss Katana Head. I am digging the 5 inch speakers for practicing. Sounds great through the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe extension cabinet.

Giving it thought to get the matching 2x12.
