pancake has the right of it...

How many of the players on my list were 'loyal' to one type of guitar...
That's the answer to this thread. Only one other that I can think of,
and that's Tony. Most players are not loyal, but fickle, and change their
guitars like Ol' Les changes his stories.

So like I said above, ask me to pick one, and I'll pick two. Those two.

thanks for this pic! I know that Mick actually sometimes plays the guitar but did not know he played an SG! I am a big Stones fan and have played a number of their songs on my SG for 40 years so it's amazing to see this pic!

Here's another one then... a recent one:
Mick Jagger with SG.jpg
This is recent enough to be a twit.
Sir Mick can have any guitar he wants... he's got the money.
The rest of us have to stroke our chins when contemplating a purchase.
I don't mind that. I've always kept my feet on the ground.

This is a fun thread, unless you hate to read much.

My Les and Mary post was for fun because it seemed like this thread was becoming overly serious.

My real answer would agree with a few others above, Angus Young and Tony Iommi. For me those guys would be the most famous and devout players of the SG.

oh yeah... I forgot one. This guy might be more famous than anyone mentioned yet.

You might not think of Mick as a guitar icon (I don't)
but you can see that he knows a thing or two about PERFORMANCE...
Proving that technical proficiency is sometimes a small (but essential)
part of the package.

Well done Colonel - you've undoubtedly won this thread...

Mick Jagger's more famous than Dr. Who, never mind George Harrison. :)

And we have a winner... Sigh. C'mon, guys, topics and threads of this type, supersubjective and absolute pointless, makes me think some members should type less and play more..
Rant over.

Chill. It's Sunday morning. What else are you going to do? One thing you definitely should not do is state your opinion while berating everyone else for stating theirs. That really isn't cool.

So you guys feel Angus Young and Tony Iommi are more famous than George Harrison. Interesting.

Can you tell the difference between "most famous guitarist" and "most famous SG player"?

Hint: it has to do with categories.

No problem with that. It's what I do with most threads.
Right, got it ... And I wasnt meaning to put down anyone, honestly, its just that I find it weird that so many engaged in this ,well, "childish" theme/topic.

Gibson's early SGs were flawed by a weak neck joint. Gibson fixed this by about 1964
I believe. The new ones are much stronger, and much better guitars than the early
ones, in spite of the prices. The SG was designed for rock an roll...

Not really, that's basically a myth. The original SG joint was literally the exact same design used on Les Paul Specials and Juniors for years and somehow those never got the same reputation as the SG. And they never did anything to (purportedly) make it stronger until 1966, and even that was probably not all that different in strength.

People just made assumptions based on how it looked from the outside, without knowing how it was actually constructed. While the later '60s and '70s SGs had a larger heel, the tenon was also much smaller than those on the early '60s SGs. So without any peer-reviewed strength test studies, nobody can really say they know which is stronger or by how much. Personally, I don't care one iota because I don't swing my guitar around by the neck. It's never been an issue for me.

Rev. Boyd Rivers with an SG. Just thought it might be interesting to list another SG used for religious music.

My wife says I'm the worlds biggest jackass.

So that makes me the most famous SG player!

Haha
