I've posted about my Gibson... now it's time to post my other SG - 1982 Yamaha SG Standard 800s... These would actually have made more sense as the replacement for the LP than What Gibson did but I'm glad I have both.

Very nice! I've always liked the look of the blue finish, but I've never actually seen one 'in the flesh'.

Back in the day I bought an SG700, probably in '80 - it was new, but I suspect it was a '78 model. It was a gigging guitar, but eventually got replaced when I got into Strats. Recently, I found a new gold top SG1802 at an irresistibly big discount, & so I'm really happy to have a Yamaha again, they're wonderful guitars. :)

I've always thought that too. Recently I was struck by how much that applies to the Reverend Sensei. Bearing in mind Gibson were struggling up against the Strat's sales figures, the Sensei has a thick, resonant body, but it's Korina, so it's weight is less than a Strat. It has a strat-like contoured body, so it's very comfortable to play, an upper cut away, so better access than a LP, and is very 'Gibson like' in construction & feel:

Are the plastics yellow, aged to such a strong yellow or just a trick of the light in the pic?
    Whichever, it looks awesome!

They've aged that way, my profile pic is a pretty much identical shade.

Nice p90s and I've always preferred dots to blocks on the fretboard.

On a different note I think the new Yamaha Revstar guitars have more than a passing resemblance to the Sensei

Yes, indeed. Though Yamaha did use a similar offset twin cut shape in the 80s on the SF 'Super Flighter' range - the Revstar's styling really draws from Reverend more than anything in Yamaha's past. Then there's the name... Maybe Reverend should make a Yamastar. :)

It's not something you'd "expect", but man it works!
