Hi, getting back to over wrapping, I did this for the first time on my LP just now & found that with the bridge at normal height & the stop bar studs screwed right down, then backed out just at tad, the break angle over the bridge is near exactly 17 degrees. I made a small cardboard "gauge" to check it. Here's a couple picsWP_20161016_001.jpg WP_20161016_003.jpg WP_20161016_002.jpg
I'll see over the next few days how I like. Cheers

I have changed direction yet again. I really studied my SG and decided to make some changes...

I never liked how the Gibson stop tailpiece just kind of sat in the slots on the studs...so I ordered up the Faber tailpiece spacers, nickel plated steel studs and nickel plated aluminum tailpiece.

Additionally, I got in touch with the guy who has both my vintage Gibsons now and he affirmed that my 68 SG had an aluminum tailpiece on it when he bought it, so considering it was a hodge podge of old parts, it likely wasn't original to an SG in 1968, but it had one anyways...so, I decided to go the same route on my 2016 Gibson SG.

I will also shim the tailpiece for a 17 degree bridge angle...

+1 on top wrapping when needed. If angle gets too deep I top wrap, two Les Pauls, one TW'ed. 3 SG's, all TW'ed. I do cut off the ball ends and run them through the new string before I wrap as well.

To each their own, experiment... That's a lot of the fun in Guitaring
