It may be time for an SG today, probably one of these, available locally:

- New Gibson Tribute SG for $1299

- Epiphone SG - many varieties and finishes for well under $1000

- New Vintage brand SG-alike - $499

Which? Thanks for a quick opinion.

(Or forget about it and use the $ for a quick trip to Las Vegas)

Part of me would want the Gibson to be "the one" after trying all of those that looked like what I was searching for. You never know however, and once you play them all you may be saying to yourself "That Epiphone just feels right!".

Since you have several to choose from locally, I would check them all out and trust my senses.

If I was going to Vegas it would be to hit the pawn shops, not the casinos! :naughty:

The one with the neck to your liking.

I have 2 husks of those Vintage brand guitars, a SG and a White Falcon. Pretty nice for little money.

I like your suggestion of a Gibson Tribute SG. I've had really good luck with 3 different Tribute models. Mine were all different variations of the Tribute LP Specials and I would guess the Tribute SGs are similar in quality, sound and playability. The Tributes I got are great sounding, well finished guitars with fast necks and smooth feeling Plek'd frets.

Get the tribute... stay away from Vegas.

But I agree with above advice...
go where they sell them and
play as many as they'll let you...
BUY THE ONE THAT COMES ALIVE IN YOUR HANDS!

None of us can tell you which one. You play them
and then you'll know. Take your own amp & pedals along and
play through that if they'll let you. Then you'll know what
you are getting.
