So, I was just a few moments ago and saw the SG Tenor thread and reminded I've had some pics and decided to find a few new ones.

What bothered me was the fact that Gibson can't help but nstead of also making a nice mandolin version, they hurl out the butt-ugly EMS-1235 - you know, the two headed freaks of the family: the aforementioned EMS, the well known and well despised by me "Stairway To Hotel California" EDS-1275, and the bassy one, once worn by Elvis himself, the EBS-1250 (along with the rare EBSF-1250 - better since I like EB-0Fs a lot. Still...they're ugly!

(Actually the EDS-1235T, the Tenor/Mandolin doubleneck is kinda cool.)

My rationale is as follows: SGs mean to me slick, smooth, fast, light, mean, tough, now-you-see-me-now-you-don't guitars with Ted McCarty obviously thinking of this deadly sexy woman, a femme fatale when he designed it.

Therefore, you make it a doubleneck, you turn it into a fat ugly broad with two heads and a big a__

As such ladies and gentlemen, from my ouevre of abominations, the uglies:

and the awkward "so ugly and so devoid of any reason to exist that only eight copies are known to exist 'cousin':"

Now, Gibson the EMS-1235 had a six string and mandolin on the other neck:

Oh man! How could I forget ELVIS and his cool-only-made-for-him-six-string EBS?

Also, there's this other fella: his name's Jim Ramage and I've never heard of him, but at least his EBSF's got some mojo.

I like all of them. None of them look disproportionate to me at all, apart from the obvious charles-and-mambo aspect.

I love those early Gibson mando/guitar doubles. Here's a selection.

And here's Robbie Robertson with his EMS-1235 in lovely cherry red. Note that this one has eight strings on the mando neck.

Oooh, International Musician, November 1975. I used to have that. Look at the price: 25 pence! When I looked at a guitar magazine the other day it was over six quid!!!!! Is that really forty years of inflation or just profiteering? :hmm:

The bass model would be handy if the next song on the set list is "Big Bottom" from Spinal Tap...and of course the Mandolin version was made for playing Stonehenge! :D

How can anyone not be able to chose between playing the bass or the guitar? In the middle of a song no less! (why else would you need one...)

One of the first solid doubles from 1964.
He never used the bridge pickup on the 6, so he ordered it without one.
Two outputs going to two amps.
