coool, and a great idea in the long run i think. after you get used to it stock you'll really be able to hear the difference when you DO mod it. would be cool to do mods a bit at a time to see which is effecting what?

Yes, I'd be worried if they wern't glowing. Unless they glow red. Which is bad. I'm sorta an amp noob, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable can tell both of us more about tubes.

Yes, all tubes glow. No matter what, unless they dont work. And if you cant see them glow it is probally because of the tube shields or retainers covering them, or the grill.

But thats awsome bacon! Do you know what speakers are in that 4X12?
Because ive never heard of a britichspec cab.... :?

If nothing else, you need to swap out the output tranny for a Hammond 125DSE or 125ESE and replace the tubes with decent ones.
The distortion is a farty fizzy thing on those amps until you get the mods in place..... 8)

You have one 12AX7 and one EL84.

You're gonna have crazy distortion with only a five watt amp. Headroom is defined as how loud it can go before it distorts and with five watts it will distort early. The opposite would be a Fender Twin Reverb rated at 80/100 watts with practically no distortion at lawbreaking volume levels.Back off on your guitar's vol knobs to clean up some of the ratty distortion. If this is a combo you know what I'm gonna say - put a better speaker in it. Then go from there.

well actually with my pedal i can turn the gain all they way down the pedal volume all they way up and the head volume alittle under halfway making it freaking loud! but not insanely distorted like when it is all they way up. makes it sound sorta like angs live at donington tone.

    Try it:
    treble pup vol:3
    treble tone: 9
pedal gain: a little less than halfway
    pedal vol: around halfway
    Amp vol: about 8
