Ok, I finally did something graphic. SIXSTRING and all those who have patiently been waiting for me to display my ax and what not, I'm finally getting something done about it. Detailed pics and more vids planned, including hardware mods. Please consider this as more of a test than anything well produced. Unfortunately, the audio is less than I hoped which I am fairly certain is a result of the internal mic. Has a sort of boxed in feel to it. But the sound is pretty clear. UPDATE on audio quality, seems better after making the speakers point more directly to the front of the webcam. ;D I assumed the mic was more omni-directional, but it's fairly directional.

Do I look like I'm playing these for the first time, yep. I'm not sure if I ever played to the second song, and rarely to the first one. If you are somewhat sleepy, you might check it out another time... It's a 23 meg download... I know I know, next time just do one song at a time. :-\
;D
Isn't editing cool! When you screw up venturing something uncharted, just reduce the volume and make a timely voice over. Hehehe

NOTE: I'll also list additional vids here when they become available.

OK CLICK HERE FOR SCORPIONS Bad boys running wild and AC/DC Shoot the Thrill Plus a small spot of Hells bells.

I really messed up the end of the last song, but, felt it needed the ending.

Remember, I never said I'm playing them right, I'm just playing them... ;)

Next up, some highlights from AC/DC Back in black and short Krokus Screaming in the night sample.

Re: Video noodling blues improve to ZZ Top

TY SG dan. I'm learning how this all works, so hopefully I wont be having so much "not playing" time like some of this was for example. I'd prefer to put a run of smaller clips together like highlights of my more fortunate moments. I just wanted to get something (have decent) out there.

I have a passion for the blues, and I'm looking forward to learning how to play it. ;)  ;D

Until then, I feed my musical ear and try to keep my fingers loose. ;)

Re: Video noodling blues improve to ZZ Top

Thanks again for the responses. I'm having fun, and it's a bit of a video diary maybe. I am determined to improve, so that you see the before, is quite alright with me. I've been itching to put out vids like this for a long time. It will help me improve as I don't like seeing me play below what I'd like to think I am capable of.

As usual, consider growing potential, and definately not polished licks. ;) To sum up quickly my guitar technique/skills, I read the tab on like 3-4 songs and 3-4 licks, and I know at least 5 chords, plus bar and power chords... Plus the blues scale, mostly first position and around there, and that's about it.

Thanks Skids, I just realized that I sent up the wrong file. The muffled voice over is totally messed up and in the wrong place. I am being a bit brave showing the pros and cons of my playing in such a raw state. Thanks for the comment. I figure we're among friends, and in the long run, I feel certain this will help me stay on track for improving as a guitarist. When it's time, I'd be asking folks for analysis and suggestions.
(Note to all: Of course, video responses would be killer)

These really were pulled together in lightning speed and with very quick processing. Each taping overcomes several significant issues and hurtles, so the recording and production is improving.
;)
I'll post the right version soon enough. It's almost the exact same thing...

I’m even learning about stage presence by doing this. I never knew how weebles-wobble (as in, “... but wont fall down”) my head was till I did these videos...
It's a little disconcerting, but, then again, so is my guitar playing. :crazy2:

When I first put on that shirt, I didn't notice the black spot. Trucker smudge from hooking/unhooking 5th wheel. (Note to self, next time don't get dressed in the dark...)

I am really beginning to not like the sound of the recordings. Sounds boxy to my ears, like the cam is partly inside a box. I did set the sound recording from 12bit to 16bit. Next step is to use standard recording speed instead of 1.5 longer. After that, I think I need to find a way to hook up a different recorder and synch up the video to sound via PC. Or record directly to PC, but I need a better mic or recording room. My camcorder is quite close to the corner walls. Maybe I can put a blanket behind the camcorder which might make the sound appear less boxed in...

TIPS/SUGGESTIONS?

Naw,,, it's the built in mic on my just under 300 clams camcorder, it has no separate mic jacks... I have a Sure sm58(?) backing vocals mic (it's alot like the classic sm57? they like for mic’ing guitar amps). But I need a different mixer to plug it into! My cheapo Radio Shack mixer must be about 20 years old. It has only some 1/4" jacks for the mics, but mostly phono (RCA I think) jacks. But I do have the adapter to go from XLR to 1/4"...

Do you think my Sure mic should be good enough for this task? (It’s currently at drummer buds right now, along with my PA stuff, the small PA is just an amp, no mixer) So I guess I need a mixer that accepts that kind of mic. I have a PA head and two single 12 plus horn for PA monitor speakers, so my backing sound will sound better soon enough. But right now the mic is the problem.

crack open the case and wire in a mic plug-in? impractical i guess, but it would be extry-cool to be able to mixxer-out straight to yer cam. maybe a webcam with recording software might be the way to go? can you use your cam as a webcam?

Yes, I can use the cam as a web cam. Mine has VCR type jacks as well as firewire. But the way my camcorder would work as a webcam, I assume I'd loose alot of the benefit of remaining all digital by doing that.

I like your creative suggestions! On that note, it does have a line level type jack for A/V (Vid/Lft/Rt). The cable is 1/8" at the cam, and 3 phono jacks at the other end. Plus the cam can be used just like a VCR! So perhaps if I only jacked into the audio lines, it might work as an external mic input jack! But I assume I would have to add appropriate power for the mic (mic pre'amp) in between the mic and that camcorder.

Hmmm So it seems I need a mixer with correctly powered mic jacks and something with normal output jacks and a direct line to the PC. That way if I can’t get it to work right as a functional remote mic jack for the camcorder, at least I can try recording directly to PC and then later combine the sound with the video within the PC.

Why thank you Wags! Good to see you around, don't be a stranger. I'm sort of thru with my first several recording attempts. So things should look and sound better in future additions. ;)
