Thanks, the grain is almost animalistic. It reminds me of a tigers stripes

Gorgeous grain! Is that actually Walnut wood? I thought they were just finished in Walnut.

    Did somebody say, "Walnut?"

Well, I'd be happy to oblige.

Here's my 1974 SG Special (the "Kraken") just lounging about, chillin' in the shade.

Now, if some of you'uns are thinking this isn't a Special because it has no dots, well that's the neato-tastic thing about some years of Specials in the '70s. For a few years in the '70s they put small block inlays in the Specials.

Welcome to ETSG! Walnut is my favorite color for an SG or any guitar really.
Yours is stunningly lovely... an example of Gibson elegance at its best. Beautiful deep gloss
and striking grain makes a fine instrument into a work of art as well.

Here's my SG faded special... they sold these all during the early oughts, and sold them by the
freight car load, and then incontinently discontinued the model in like 2013. The faded specials were
not listed as 'walnut," they were listed as 'worn brown" or "worn cherry" and I think there were some
worn black finishes too. Mine's a 'worn brown' SG, mahogany wood, and my pickguard is real walnut.

You can see that mine's more red than Walnut looking, and it seems to change in
different light sometimes more brown, sometimes more red. Yours is more elegant with
the deep gloss, mine's more plain but still kicks butt.

Plain or not, I fell head over heels for this instrument way back in like 2008, and I'm not over it
yet. I named her Luna. She's the Queen of my music room, and the best guitar of any kind that
I've ever played. (which is saying a lot) I also have been a bass player for a long time and
am the proud owner of a 1966 Fender Jazz bass, which I stripped long ago and stained Walnut.
I did a good job, and it looks much better than the old '60s sunburst, but I took probably
$10,000 off the value of it by doing that. *shrugs ...It's not for sale, not till they pry my
    dead cold hands off it.

You are correct. The wood is mahogany. The finish is walnut.

That color and ebony are my two favorites for an SG.

Nice, I like the Vinyl theme, have you considered making a batwing from an old LP?

That's cool, In the original pic it just looked like you had taken the center sticker. Extra points for it being Groovy Greats!!
