Hi,

I'm looking to buy a genuine Gibson SG hard shell case. Either tan / pink, black / grey, black / white or the 2015 gold coffin case. I'm based in Cardiff, South Wales and can travel a reasonable distance within the UK.

Cheers

Likewise, I have to ask why it has to be Gibson and of a certain year. I think an SKB TSA case is a far better value, and offers more protection.

True, but if it's anything like my guitars & cases, the worst treatment they get it being loaded in the back seat of the car for a jam session / musical visit to friends!

And I kinda like to have a matching case... Yes, I know it's a bit OCD, but I suppose I am! :hmm:

Hope the OP let's us know, would be good to get another SG owner posting on the forum...

I'd be more concerned about the cats attacking the Tolex.

I recently picked up a 2006 SG Classic which came with the padded gig bag. I was looking for a genuine Gibson case as I wasn't sure of the best after market case for a snug fit. Has guitars pretty much flopping around in generic cases before!

The genuine TKL (Gibson) are great cases.

SPIDER, Gear 4 Music, TP and Guitar Fetish are great and affordable .

There was a recent thread here where it was established that Epiphone SGs don't fit in Gibson cases, but Gibson SGs do fit in Epiphone cases - so you're right to question the fit!

FWIW, Gibson do make aftermarket cases, the only difference seems to be the branding as Gibson Gear rather then Gibson USA. Should be able to find one for about £140 in the UK. Expensive for what it is, but it does say Gibson on the front! Gator make an accurate replica of the brown/pink SG case which even includes the interior cover Gibson seem to have abandoned - GAK do them for £79 - but I've not seen how good the fit is...

TWBR, ahhh right, have to agree with Raiyn - SKB are probably the best for protection, don't know if the ones we'd get in the UK are TSA versions, but they are pro quality.

Not had an SG one, so can't comment on fit, but I'd expect it to be good.

There are some bargains to be had used - Ebay, Gumtree etc, might take a bit longer, but you never know what's out there. I've had a couple of great deals off ebay for Epiphone cases....

Or maybe wanted ad on the forum - worth a shot, there's plenty of us on from the UK...

Hope you get one sorted and stick around on the forum to talk SG'S

Thanks. I had a look at Spider cases but thought the quality wouldn't be that great for the price.

Cheers Bob. I had my eye on a new Gibson case on eBay the other week that sold for £73. Wouldv'e been mine had eBay not crashed before the listing ended

I'm scouring all Gumtree, eBay and Facebook gear sale groups at the moment. To be honest, I'll probably get a non branded case and save some money!

Cheers. I thought I'd check to see if I could pick up a second hand case instead of coughing up £140!

You got the 1-SKB-61 model right? Heavy duty ABS(?) plastic, aluminum trim, keylock latch between the brandplate and the handle with a number that starts TSA? ;)

If so, that'd be the one I'm talking about.

No Raiyn, I used to use their rack mount cases for PA gear, great value and strong too...

So assume their guitar cases would be up to the same specs?

I have a couple cheapie wood/cardboard tolexish cases, and I prefer them to the "genuine" Gibson" cases. They are lighter and if I ding them up I don't feel bad.

But SKB for protection, for sure.

My favorite case is the Brown TKL , if you look closely the top of the headstock and the neck are very well protected . The only problem is the price.
