My wife was playing around on the computer a while back ( she has no idea as to what she's doing) and got some type of error message. What she did was try to go back to a restore point, but instead she did a system recovery which brought my computer back to day 1.

I have recovered most of my files, except for my website files.........they're gone ! I have no control over the website now.

Any clues how to recover them ( I didn't create any backup's) or am I just screwed here?

    Thanks !

    - G.W.

I lost site files in a crash before and all I had to do was log in to my FTP client for my site and download all the site files back to my hard drive. That worked fine. :)

there are data recovery software available...
or you can always pay someone to retrieve them for you...

its possible to retrieve quite a bit of data even from hard drives that have been reformatted a few times using those powerful software.

If you are hosting your website somewhere other than your local computer you should be able to FTP the files back down to your local machine.  Thats the way I do the ETSG site.  I copy files both ways all the time.  If your site has FTP access you can use a program like WS_FTP (http://www.ipswitch.com/products/ws_ftp/index.asp)  They have a free trial.

Many webhosts also have a backup utility where you can backup your website and then send that backup to your local machine.

Were you running your website off of your local machine or did you have a webhost somewhere?

I'm not even supposed to be here today!
INTRO: I decided to haunt this place because it's amusing to see anywhere that respects my father. And I figure it's my last bastion of hope for selling my Jag-Stang. I'm not really enthusiastic about going the eBay route. I'll get to that later.

RESPONSE: Since your files were uploaded through Yahoo Site Builder, I'm not entirely sure how you can access them in order to change them...what was it again that Yahoo customer service told you? I'd just keep nagging them. Next time I'm in town I'll show you how to use WS_FTP - I'm pretty sure you can just save all your pictures right now with Ye Olde Right-Click and then copy the source code as a text document to your hard drive.

This is why you need to get one of those widgets that Jason got me - it's a gig of memory, so you won't be able to save everything, but your applications, important files and settings should be backed up AT LEAST once a month.

Failing all else, I can always give you Julie's phone number. She does this sort of thing for a living.

OUTRO: Although I am all girl-shaped and whatnot, remember - my dad can still kick your ass. ;D
