After Gibson stopped making a '61 reissue I tracked down a special edition spec'd and commissioned by Dave's Guitar Shop in Wisconsin, a 2016 Gibson SG Standard '61 Reissue Limited Edition that had literally everything I wanted.
All these years and you finally influenced me Cerebral. I can’t get enough of the specials these days! I am browsing local ads for the hopes of finding one at a steal. Hell, I always preferred the look of HB’s to the P90’s, but I gotta say, man they have grown on me lately (aesthetically - always loved the sound!).
I was really torn on putting the cash out for a TI signature, such a cool guitar. Those little touches make it so unique, the pick up covers, the strap button placement, the bad ass bridge; the chunky neck, yes I love them too. After playing the AY it feels like cheating :) My classic Custom is a chunky neck and I love it. More work in the chord graveyard (cowboy chords) but everything further up the neck has a lot more real estate and is much more forgiving (assuming you have “man hands”)
Ultimately, I can only buy and play so many guitars. Currently I have my 3 SG’s (love them dearly, each and every one), one 20 year old Sheraton and a fender acoustic that was a gift. When it came to the TI signature I weighed it against spending the money on a Malcolm Young Gretsch. Always wanted one, just waiting for the deal. At the end of the day the TI SG offers some versatility to my SG line up, but not as much as the Malcolm Signature will. So I opted to pass. Kills me in a way. Boy I sure love looking at yours though. In a few years I will kick myself for not buying one when they are rarer than hens teeth, that much I know.
2013 SG - 2nd 2013 production line run. Ordered in Dec 2012. Received March 2013
2013 SG - last 2013 production line run. Store owner had orders for 2 SG's, so he ordered 3 - Kept the one he liked best out of them to sell in the store. Purchased in Jan 2014.
1993 SG - Bat Wing - bought about 4 years ago. It was a consignment item at a local music store. This is the best playing SG that I have ever held. And Yes! I hate Batwings!
SG Firebrand - purchased from a music store in 1983
One day, I'm going to post pictures of these instruments.

2011 Gibson SG Special. Specials have a range of pickups, I am a humbucker guy now that I've gotten old. I used to be a P-90 guy....which were called "specials" in the 70's, never heard the term P-90 until years later. It is my every day go to guitar that stays on the stand. I've changed it many times as my mood allows. Now has a new wiring harness (pcb gone), and currently has original bridge pickup, and Guitar Madness neck pickup which actually sounds great in this guitar.
