What's the most reasonable way for me to go about getting a purple SG?

There used to be a guy who would provide rattle cans in just about any colour you wanted. He advertised in the Motorcycle News small ads.

I think Triumph Trident (the old air cooled ones) used to come with purple tanks.

Back in the 70s Triumph cars used to come in a lovely shade of purple, simply called Magenta. Long ago I had a TR6 that colour, and it's what my Gordon Smith GS1000 is based on.

    Got pictures?

I love TR6s. TR4s maybe more and old Sunbeams even more still, but a sorted TR6 is still a sight to behold.

Which reminds me, I've still got a spare 6.2 AMG V-8 that needs un-hydrolocking and a new home... Don't ask why, its a long story involving my CLK63 convertible, a hurricane, Home Depot, somebody else's pickup truck...

Have you ever heard the old saying -

"champagne taste on a beer budget" ?

To have a guitar painted nice like this -

    PURPLE-SG.jpg

Would cost you 500 bucks alone.

^Francis Rossi, front man with the legendary Status Quo, painted his Tele with a can of green Ronseal wood paint and a brush...

Hello - Sorry first POST I think I sent an empty post already!

I purchased an EPI SG (pretty cheap) - modified it myself with pups, nut, etc . . . AND - refinished it myself. Not as hard as you think it would be. Go online and look at some vids (Guitar Doctor is good). Look at enough of them to feel comfortable. You can paint any color you want and get a good job too. My "cheap" SG is a fantastic playing guitar - I like it as much as some of my "expensive guitars" - even my custom job. You CAN DO IT. I paid 400.00 bucks then about 200 in upgrades .... boom!!

Interesting! I'd be interested to hear more about what you ended up with and see some pictures.

Sure... Mine was featured on a magazine cover - a very long story and I don't want to derail this topic with it - but this was one of the studio shots:

A guy I worked with in Aberdeen bought a purple Mk. 1 Boxster about the same time as I bought my Mk. 1 Elise - 1998.

    "Peter's Purple ***** Extension" :-)
