WHITE Binding Madness

My "Exclusive Run 2019 SG Standard" in Pelham Blue has white binding. Spec-wise it is exactly the same as the 2018 Standard. I guess Gibson just used up the parts left over from the previous year to make this run. It would not bother me if the binding was more cream but I think the white looks especially awesome in combination with pelham blue.

My R8 Les Paul was like that for awhile also until it gradually started fading back to a more yellow-y color.

Yeah, I've read a lot here that people installed chrome knobs but I like the black ones. I was very skeptical about the locking tuners on an SG and thought maybe I change them later to light-weight vintage ones. But this guitar is actually so well balanced that it doesn't matter and I must admit locking tuners are really nice when changing strings.

When they first started using analine dyes for the custom shop SGs to make them like they did back in the day they apparently didn't follow the recipe correctly. Probably they didn't give enough time for the finishing process. The dyes leeched into the binding over time. They figured it out at some point but for people with ones made in '06 or so (mine) you got this. I presume now that it's 15 years old it's done with the dye staining the binding.

2018 used the Standard body.

I agree, the White Binding on that Guitar, as well as the entire guitar, is completely AWESOME !!! the 'Autumn Fade' colour just Kicks-ASS 24/7........ ISYK, the '17 & '18 SG Standards were basically the same Guitars but for the pickup's ('18='61's, '17='57's) . GIBSON seemed to be in come-back mode after the Min-E-Tune/G-Farce fiasco's and did the USA line really right from '16 on-ward. The '17 SG Standard I got in Black, with the rolled White binding, WOWO, the binding just stands out brilliantly. I kinda regret not buyin a few of them. The Cherry Burst SG Standard that year especially, and it was a one-off too, FFS ! An even better one is the Rolled White binding I got on a 2018 Firebird V, also in Black, the White binding just makes the Guitar just that much more AWESOME !! Really ROCKIN' .

The colour is officially called “Autumn Shade”. Kinda cheesy name, but I love the look. Some of them look more like a vintage cherry burst (I saw about 5 before settling on this one that looked like the website).

i have seen the color runs of that . but your does look quite different ! very nice burst !!

I bet that black Firebird with White is stunning !!

I think Gibson kicked it up in 16 / 17 / 18 due to the joke of 2015 uuugh
