Ok, so my friend's setup consists of his les paul->rack containing-> Boss MT-2->DOD Phaser->Arion Metal Master->Boss DS-1->Jekyll and Hyde Distortion Box->Rocktron Silver Dragon->Roctron Hush Noisegate-> Visual Sounds H2O chorus/reverb-> Peavey XXX 120 watt all tube half stack.

So, who else thinks this is a little over the top considering my friend has never played out in his life and can only have the volume on his amp up a quarter of the way to "1" without shattering his windows. I can't speak for everyone but my feeling is that some people should spend less time trying to buy a ton of crap to make them sound cool and just learn how to play the thing. >:(

I don't care if he is over the top....as he probably is... ;D

I bet he gets the tone he wants and besides it's his money.
I play like shirt and have spent a fortune on gear. I have finally found a few pieces worth keeping as I now have the tone I always sought.
Now I'm working on my chops.... and enjoying da tone......

If he can play it and if he uses it, I don't see any reason why he shouldn't have it. To tell you the truth I wouldnt mind having such a wide variety in distortion either ;D

thats the thing, he doesn't play it.... its more about buying the newest and coolest stuff because someone else has it then actually learning to play.

Then yeah, I guess he's goin' a little overboard. But, does he buy and sell alot, or does he just buy everydistortion pedal he sees?

It's his money. Right? Get over it. I get crap every week at work because I don't spend (waste) $40+ on lottery tickets trying to win my way off the assembly line. I save my money and have started back to college part time to get ahead and off the line. Most of the people I work with can't understand that I will come out ahead from both getting off the line when I finish my BS in IT and not throwing my money away on the lottery. Their loss, my gain. If you want what your friend has, figure out a way to afford it or don't complain. I had to spend almost a whole year picking up all of the overtime I was offered along with cutting back severly on buying new CD's, DVD's, magazine's, eating out, going to or renting movies, etc. to afford my '61 RI.
Yeah I would love buy whatever I want, whenever I want; but it's not gonna happen. I am thankful for what I have and do what I need to afford my toys. Get a clue, IRL somebody can always easily afford to waste money on something you want. And yes I quit my last band when I could make more picking up OT at work than I could playing Friday and Saturday nights with in bars with them.

Well someone got out on the wrong side of the bed, I was simply trying to get more opinions because I can see it now.........3 months later........... Our first show and I'm the one that'll have to help him lug all his #### and set it up just so he play the whole set only using one of his myriad of effects.

Be careful now.......... there are the three categories of equipment levels one takes to a gig.

1) Just what you absolutely use and need. (Down side of this is if something goes south you're stuck)

2) Take what you use and need but also remember backup. (You have it but don't set it up......)

3) Overkill. (Up side is it adds to the showmanship side of your show. The Down side is it will add 37% more set up and tear down to your gig....................)

There you go.................................... ;D
