is your special one of the faded models? if so, then that seems to be pretty common . . . the super-thin coat of lacquer on these models seems to leave them prone to 'denting' . . . I know mine has many minor marks in the surface and I'm very careful with it
Thats cause Gibson, unlike nearly anyone else, still uses nitro to coat their guitars. And this is a great thing. Nitro is a fine finish, lets the wood breathe and ring out, really is quality. The stuff that Fender uses these days is pretty much like covering your guitar in Legos. Same with every import guitar out there. I like the feel of nitro much more than the feel of Plastic.

can't give you any more info than that as I have never used their products, but they seem to have alot of refinishing info on their site
