I'm fairly traditional; cherry and TV yellow. But ANY color looks good on an SG. We are after all talking about SGs.
I prefer the cherry but I also like the brown (natural grain) a lot. The Pelham blue is starting to grow on me as well.
Pretty much all of the standard and optional 60's finishes. Pelham Blue and Polaris White being two of my favorites. However that Champagne color and there was also a metallic burgundy that also stand out for me. As long as the red isn't too bright, I still love Cherry Red transparent. And, ever since I first saw that '61 Les Paul/SG Standard in Gold, I have been in an insatiable state of lust.
On the first sight a real beauty, but if it was mine i am afraid i would be "oversaturated" by the curly maple pretty soon. But obviously it is Your guitar and not mine... My favorite colors might be known from my previous posts: white, gold, violet, maybe a nice read with more intensity than that strange cherry, maybe a blue deeper than pelham blue.
There is completely no explanation to the color palete and finishes of SGs. Les Pauls get all the love. Sad true story.
in september of 72 i saw a light mahogany sg & my parents bought my heritage cherry (till it faded) a few weeks before x-mass but i never forgot the light mohog one... i'm just going on what came up in my search for a mohog sg picture...
This is what you're thinking of: I didn't even know they made them in that finish, just happened to find that picture. I like it. Edit: Come to think of it, I did see a '71 Standard (still a 1970 style example) in that finish, but I assumed it was a refin. It was a good deal too, pretty rough shape but it must be rare. I've never seen another like it.
Heritage Cherry is certainly the classic SG color, but Pelham Blue is so elegant looking I might have to go with that.
My favorite color SG - Image by big jilm posted Nov 15, 2015 at 10:00 PM I wish I had one in this TV Yellow! It's my favorite look for a guitar.
Oooh... It looks like almost butter cream colour... I like it.. Not always a fan of the yellow.. But that one, cool.
I like the cherry when it's a real deep, cherry-blood colour. They don't always do it like this, though, sometimes they're kinda orangey looking (I feel that way with cherry sunburst Les Pauls too, the deeper the red, the better) Otherwise, cream/white.
what, no love for the zooter? It's a real toe tapper, daddy-o... http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Zoot-Suit.aspx
Actually not a bad looking SG. Very different, I like it. Incredible amount of work involved. Just look at the neck construction ! This color is very steampunkish looking, with the naked coils. I like the controls settings, a bit à la Stratocaster. This thing is a carved top ?
