Yet another question.... P-90 cover

I have a 67 Gibson SG Jr with a hot P-90. The pickup makes a sharp noise when I hit the cover with my pick (even lightly). I'm just wondering if that's normal... not complaining ... just wondering.

If I tap the cover, it does get picked up, and could be said to be quite loud.

I don't do it. :)
