I will always pick what John Cipollina had: Buffalo head nickels glued on! We're not worthy!
Gold top hats with silver reflector inserts. You simply cannot get more classy than that on a gold top without going overboard. See my 2010 50th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul Standard, R0.
I'm surprised amp companies don't sell them so your guitar and amp match up. I'd try some Orange ones if they did.
Marshall or Fender amp knobs
I think '50s Les Pauls were equipped with top hats.
many '60s SGs were equipped with witch hats (but not all)
Most '70s SGs and Lesters were equipped with Speed Knobs.
After that, the deluge... ... buyer beware.
(except that they all work fine. Difference are mostly aesthetic).
I have two SGs, and one of them I equipped with Allparts top hats
simply because those go to 11. Buy feel, I don't think there is much difference
between top hats and reflectors. But I like the simplicity of the plain black
that goes to 11. My SG special below was equipped with plain black top hats
which go with the "less expensive" motif of the SG special. But I like the look
so I just got some volume knobs that could play louder. *grins
I think Fender amp knobs would look good on any guitar.
They just look cool to my eye.
But I found a set of Witch Hats to install on my 2012 SG special
"70s tribute" because some of the early '70s SGs were still equipped
with those. (probably Gibson supervisor said, "use all those up before
we start installing the "modernistic" speed knobs on our spiffy new
These are Allparts replicas. I don't worry too much about authenticity, this guitar is so unique that
authenticity is a non-issue. I bought it because I liked the concept, and I have modded it only
superficially because the design was so well executed IMHO, and so unique and so interesting.
Speed knobs would also be correct for a '70s trib, but I like the Witch Hats, which was my vote.
I like mine stock with the occasional speed knob if hot rodding.
Editing...I have to revamp that statement...whatever APPEARS stock...and aged...but do NOT give me those crappy red "aged" things...do some REALLY turn red?
On an SG... Top Hat Reflectors. On my Les Pauls, it depends on the guitar!
haha the ol Witch Hats special ...
I've never been tempted to send a dickpic until I saw this headline...
well, just get it polished first...
then send it.
Smooth top knobs from Philadelphia Luthier are vintage correct and not expensive.
KLUSON witch hat knobs, different design than Allparts : https://www.wdmusic.co.uk/hardware-...nt-knobs-c40/kluson-witch-hat-usa-knob-p15006
Those Kluson knobs are completely different than the originals-numbers facing out, line below the numbers. They look nice but wouldn't be a 'correct' replacement.
The survey needs another option... "Meh, Knobs is knobs"
to my eyes too haha
I just switched mine from witch hats to these amber top hats that go to 11.
Is everything "one louder" on that guitar?
speed knobs, because,...eh,... well,... i don't know,... i just like them!
