Just picked up one of them there G400's (non-pro, worn brown) on Craigslist. Been an LP player (mostly cheap imitations) most of my life and now see the error of my ways.

I've only had it about an hour. Needs a few little tweaks in terms of setup with the nut seeming to be cut quite deep but that aside, goddamn this thing has really struck a chord with me. I expected so very little. From an unspecified factory, China 2012 this is one seriously good instrument for the price. One happy punter here.

It's still early days but I really think I'm now a convert. SGs, where have you been all my life?

Congrats. It doesn't matter what brand or model, if it plays good and inspires you, it's "your guitar".

It's like that. Whatever we say to a non convert, cannot convey what the SG is about, until that person holds one and plays it.

I have a summer cottage like that ... really. Doesn't matter how much I rave about Iles de la Madeleine and my set-up there, friends just nod and tell me in all politeness how nice it looks and bla bla bla. Very first time they finally decide to come over, they blame me for not telling them how incredible that place is, and why didn't I tell them before. I just tell them I tried.

I should maybe rebaptise the place the SG Casa.

Oh ... and welcome to da zoo. And by the way, this is not your last SG. You WILL be assimilated, resistance is futile.

Congratulations on your SG enlightenment. I hope many more of these gorgeous guitars come your way in the future

And as DrBGood said, we have a saying here:
If we don't see pics, it didn't happen.

Damn Doc, I'd have to make that my main residence.

Personally I think any set neck SG holds the power. Even though they're just slightly thinner than the bolt ons, when you pick up one of these svelt beauties they come alive in your hands. Even a G400 has the same weight (light but solid) and feel. I love my Jr but I feel something different when I pick up my Gibson. I can't imagine the difference from a lead Paul.

Wow that's definitely cool. I didn't realize that was an option. Have you compared it to a regular LP?

Tonewise or weightwise ? Neither ...
But I can tell you it has nothing to envy to a bona fide anchor LP for the tone. It has that touch of semi-hollow tone to it.
As weight goes, I'd say it's around 7 pounds.

Listen to this and tell me it's not the best LP tone you've heard.

Yup. I played for 40 years before my first SG found me. It's siblings have arrived in rapid fashion.

Thank you
Yes it is.

Now imagine playing your SG there ... neighbors don't really mind if you're inside. Outside on a calm day, the whole island will hear you. Lucky for me, it's windy every day.
