Grover Rotomatics... Apparently you're supposed to either love them or hate them

I voted "meh". I don't have anything against Grovers, they are great quality tuners, but on an SG (at least mine!) I found that they did something to my tone that I didn't like (a bit more sustain with increased bass and the attack felt different). My interpretation is that the added mass on the...

Don't play the guitars in the Guitar shop!

ahah same thing happened to me at the beginning of the year... I wasn't looking for a guitar in particular, spotted a nice Classic Vibe Thinline Tele for $200 (canadian), and went back home with it... A few months later, it has been modified quite a bit, but it's tied with my #1... pic:

Pickguard for my SG 3 knobs

I think it was mine! It was a custom made pick guard from Pickguardian. I'm not at home right now, but I can PM all the information later in the week end if you want. Just send me a PM to remind me maybe tomorrow?

To the SG expert: identify the wood (from pics)

Here are a few new shots. I tried different angles to better show the wood grain. It's not very easy, because the checking of the nitro is parallel to the wood grain.

To the SG expert: identify the wood (from pics)

it's true that the guitar is resonating like a bell! Ok, so alder/maple be it! That's fine to me! I will post more videos of it! (there is one in my other post).

To the SG expert: identify the wood (from pics)

oh don't worry Colonel! I love the guitar! As I mentioned in my first post, this is just pure curiosity! I love that guitar, it gets lots of playing time, but I wanted to know more about it! I've checked on the online serial number decoder, and it says that my guitar was made at the Kalamazoo...

To the SG expert: identify the wood (from pics)

well, none of them was a 100% sure (except one, who is sure that it is mahogany). So I thought that people here would have a better idea!

To the SG expert: identify the wood (from pics)

Yet another post about my '83 SG Special, I know, but I've been wondering lately... According to the guy who sold it to me, my SG has an alder body with a maple neck (he told me the previous guy who sold it to him told him so). I know that Specials from this years are supposed to be made of...

Single coil hum: How to deal with?

otherwise you can try the Ilitch back plate (sold directly by the inventor, Ilitch, or by Suhr or Lindy Frailin). It's a low inductance/DC resistance coil fitted inside a backplate. I don't own one but tried one recently on a friend's guitar, and I think that it is the best hum cancelling...

    83 SG Special: customized

Best plugs ever! Everybody should have these! @AC30: yep, I do the same with all my guitars, but trying to respect the original design as well. I really think those 3-knob SGs deserve a 4th knob, it really is a completely different beast with it! So many tones available!

    83 SG Special: customized

Hi folks! As some of you may remember, I've bought this guitar a few weeks ago. I have been looking for an SG for a little while, and couldn't find one that felt right in my hands (in terms of feeling of the neck, playability...), until I tried this one. It came as a 3-knob SG Special...

    Epiphone riviera p-93

I had a P93 Riviera for a few weeks (traded guitar with a guy at work). Those are nice guitars, and I'm pretty sure upgrading wires, pots and cap in there would make a huge improvement in the overall sound.

    perfect string gauge for sgs

"perfect gauge" is very subjective. For instance, I play 10-52s on my Tele, 9.5-44s on my Strat and 11s on my SG. A friend of mine uses 8s on Fender guitars and 9s on Gibsons. He sounds great with them, but when I play his guitars I don't like them at all and find that I sound like ****.
