To the SG expert: identify the wood (from pics)

Here are a few new shots. I tried different angles to better show the wood grain. It's not very easy, because the checking of the nitro is parallel to the wood grain.

I was only 99% because of struggling to see and type and do anything on this small cell phone screen after my laptop hard drive crashed on me a few weeks ago.

The grain looks too tight to be Mahogany and the checking seems to be the same type you get on Fenders.

Those pickup cavity pictures look like Mahogany, but the rest of the photos certainly don't. This is fascinating to me. I thought all SGs were made of Mahogany.

I might have to face the fact that I'm wrong again.

I didn't read the whole thread on my phone so I'm sure it's been addressed already but that's clearly mahogany, as it should be.

Might wanna read the whole thread..
It's been proven to be Alder. The catalog states these Specials were made of "American Hardwood" with maple necks.
