Hullo chaps(esses)
I was in GAK today - looking at their line of guitars and they have for sale a 1961 Gibson SG Junior in TV yellow for £10,000. I noticed that there is NO logo - ie no Les Paul decal - in fact, except for the inlaid Gibson, nothing at all - I pointed this out to one of the staff there who said this is quite normal for SG Gibsons of era and that the TV yellow ones never had a logo on. Personally it sounded like rubbish to me - why on earth would Gibson do this? All their other guitars had Les Paul decals on (there was decals on the other vintage SGs they had there)

Is this true or is this just a yarn?

The pic that Esser posted doesn't have Les Paul anywhere on it, guitar or text... ???

I have quite a few 61 junior photos in my collection and all have the logo. Of course this isnt absolute. The cataloge thing I posted is hard to tell from, but i think after close examination it doesnt have one, and is also very much like a drawing/spasmograph (or whatever they call them), making it even more unreliable. Hence the continuing confusion.

remember, they want £10,000 for it - that $20,000 - which I think is ridiculous for what was an entry level instrumen built with very basic materials and nott hi grade wood stock.
They are desirable geetars, but IMO, not that desirable - this is just a fad for paying big bucks for old guitars - times will change and it'll be worth £2000 in a few years time I'll bet!

So, one of you guys out there must have a TV yellow 61 SG junior - has it got a Les Paul decal or not?!!!
Do you think Gibson customer service knows?

If I was going to pass £10k I would want that PROVEN to me that this was not a wanky peg head veneered/glued on. The shop has a good reputation, but I am concerned that you experts cannot ascertain the veracity of this non-Les paul logo - worrying!!! Someone could be being scammed!

Maybe I could give vintage guitars a call in London....

Strange Brew's (who ever's in on eBay right now and TV Yellow) has it but it's pretty worn.
