2005 control plates??

Anyone have a 05 standard and notice that the control plate is the smaller one, normally just used on the 61 RI?  I've never seen the small ones on a standard, is this a permanent change or just the Gibson - we use what we got kinda thing.  I know its the small stuff that gets to me... Does this slightly alter the knob positions?

it used to be, that Gibson only routed out enough to cram the controls in, so the cover didn't need to be as large
. . . then they started just making a big freakin cavity . . . presumably to make it easier to work with
I wonder if they've started doing it the old-fashioned way? I'd like to see under that cover!

maybe they have gone to mini micro body pots!

but the smaller route is STRONGER, as the large route and a smack on the lower front of the guitar can crack the body
