kenwood.jpg
Kenwood JS620W snagged at the GoodWill Thrift Store 8.00 and tax lol

So I patched it into the new Panama 5 watt head......hey its an 8 ohm 120 watt speaker.....and interestingly .......at low volumes it actually sounds very nice.

I actually just wanted it for the cabinet ----heck ya cant buy the wood to build a cabinet for 8.00 lol So I will eventually be loading a nice Eminence Black Heart speaker in this thing (Thank you MR. Goo!) but for now--------it dont sounds half bad

No just a cheap bastard lol

Actually it sounds really nice (especially for jazz --Joe Pass style tones) warm and melodic.....at low volume (which is fine with me) but if you CRANK it the woofer gets very "sloppy" or "farty" but low volume rich cleans it does alll day long
This is whats driving it........

once that 12 inch speaker gets put in that cab it will be no mo combos just another head then another head
then one day the big giant head will conquer them all!

Adrian, Wait till you see my pair of Cerwin Vega Stereo Speakers with giant woofers I got for free a few years back. I have been wanting to butcher the heavy ass particle board enclosures and scavenge the speakers and wiring etc and install them into a nice baltic birch or other nice wood enclosure and have some nice equipment in the end over the fake grain skin they applied to the particle board original cabs

Of course I still love my little Peavey 110 Envoy I got for $10 one time.
Easy and light to move plus it gets a decent amount of dirt when I want it for just noodling etc.

Adrian, Thats my favorite section in the 'GoodWill' & Salvation Army (Sal's) store! Sometimes they just don't know or care what they got. & when you really think about it, how much can you really ask for only 1 speaker that you don't have a partner for??

Barry, I got 2 killer Stereo amps to replace my one broken one for $20 a piece at Goodwill.

One is a Denon and it even goes well with the Denon CD player I bought a year or so prior at a different Goodwill location.
Try getting a hi fi tech to fix an amp for $20 huh?

You can't beat those prices with a stick bro! I've actually seen guitar necks (3) one time at GoodWill & some older drum parts. Hey who knows where stuff comes from sometimes eh??

Only problem with using a multiple speaker enclosure for a single driver is the possibility of the mid and high drivers affecting the resonance of the bass driver, i.e. the one you want to use for guitar. OK if they are separated from the bass enclosure (some do have dividers) but if not there's always that chance. Remember that a good hi-fi shop will always demo speakers in a room on their own so that the other (passive) drivers don't affect the ones you're listening to.
Either way, $8 for a cab still works out cheaper than trying to build one.

Thanks Java.
Yes at the moment it is usefull at low volume/watt but the linked speakers are limiting.

I will be separating the mid range and tweeter... replacing the stock Kenwood woofer with an Eminence 12" Black Heart speaker and ROCKING THE HOUSE :)

And I can double my $ selling the woofer and the wiring harness.....

Oh JavaMan, you are way over thinking the simple pleasures of a HillBilly rig bro!

I know this is hard being you hail from 'ye Emerald Isle' but you just got to Think HillBilly! What is HillBilly? Basically making things serve a purpose & or work for your needs real cheap! This is seldom ever pretty or 'the right way' things are supposed to be done. It is simply mostly done with very little money &, the items on hand!

Adrian = HillBilly! And proud of it too!

Adrian, I would be most impressed if you MacGyver'd your new speaker out of something ingenious that you got lying around the swamp somewhere, like old still parts. Or had to barter with a neighbor for his guitar speaker by agreeing to let him use your goat, .. for parties!

I am really liking the tones of these Panama amps I hear in clips. Need to go check one of these little ones out.

If you want to keep it hillbilly why not go for the simple option, i.e. use the speaker cab as it is and appreciate the tonal discrepancies for their own unique sound? That way it saves the expense of buying another speaker too. Also you can thrash it to death and still only be eight bucks out of pocket.

I'm 100% with you on that.

Unless of course the neighbor is into that goat arrangement for a guitar speaker of course.
