I'd like for us to compile a list of vintage guitars, effects and amps that can be had (in good condition) by the working guitarist without blowing the bank.

RULES:

- must playable without major repairs or mods, must be presentable (ie: not mangled and hideous) if guitar
- must turn on and perform consistently if amp
- must be produced before 1980
- must cost $1200 or less if guitar
- must cost $900 or less if amp
- must cost $200 or less if effect

I can think of some examples... a '60s SG-type Melody Maker, or some '70s Fender amps. Please provide specific examples if you can.

Those go for under $1200?

I've never seen one that cheap... granted I probably don't look very hard.

a 60's or 70's bassman.

also, Kay guitars. theyre cheap and are decent hollowbody. IMO of coarse

I think there should be another rule added.
the piece of gear should have some desirability or goodness. theres a reason some vintage stuff stayed vintage im sure.

If you're gonna use ebay you're gonna have to either know the reserve or it has to have a BIN to know that it's gonna sell under your price cap. For instance, that Pelham '66 MM will go for more than $1200.00.
Gbase would be better or actual music store websites because they have fixed prices.
Used SG Standards, Specials and '61 RIs routinely go for less than $12C's.

There's a lot of stuff out there but you have to have one's ear to the ground, so to speak, to know about it all! ;) And if you can't spot what's what ... well ..... figure it out and learn! ;D

I acquired a nice 70s Gibson Les Paul Deluxe about a year ago for 1000 euro (equivalent to about $1200). She's beat up, had a fret job, but she's still a beautiful guitar. :)
