So my 9 year old son Liam (yes, the kid playing an LP jr on youtube!) has now decided he wants to play the drums. His school have a specialist music programme, and in a couple of years he can join the schools band.
We found a digital drum kit (full size) in the local paper for just under AUD$300 and took him over to have a look. He loved it!
Anyway, he's now taking lessons, and I'm having fun in the mean time banging away on it too!

And my 9 year old son wants a drum kit too. He's banging on everything that makes a sound at the moment. I suppose I should follow your advice, Alex, and go get them drums...

I think part of the reason he likes it is that my older brother, who he absolutely worships, plays the drums.
Liam is mildly autistic, and his fine motor skills aren't very developed. He loves music, but thinks guitar is too hard. So he asked us if he could have drum lessons.
The beauty of the digital drum kit is you can either amplify it so everyone can hear, or use headphones and not disturb anyone.

Exactly! (An acoustic drum set is out of the question). Technology hand in hand with muscianship, right Biddlin?

:applause:I love it . My son Andrew started on the drums . He had the luxury of living with a band, so noise wasn't an issue (he also had my fabulous drummer,"Cadillac" Jacque Lavelle,as a role model, softest hands on the planet!) . I think the electronic sets are ideal for kids and I've played a couple of gigs with a drummer using a high-end set in a jazz trio . I'm also a bit jealous of those who can play trap sets, as I'm somewhat challenged just playing guitar and not tripping over myself on stage:laugh2:, so no drummer jokes from me .:dude:

I jumped the reservation!
This is good stuff! Makes this oldman grin from ear to ear. Liam has himself a good dad and uncle watching out for him.:thumb:

Do tell the lad that without a drummer, a jam is nothing but a bunch of guitar players trying to see who can play faster! Its the drummer that holds it all together and sets the pace. Now Liam can be that "point man" too! Hey, look at it like this. In a bit you'll have your very own drummer and not have to drive across town to get him!
Good job Alex, you did well!:applause:

Aww, that's great! I wanted to get a digital drumkit, but my other half complains that I have nowhere to put it. Well booo. I haven't, but that's beside the point!

How wonderful that he has a role model within the family. I hope your son really enjoys himself and gets to that school band!

Good for you and Liam, Alex!

As a dad with two autistic kids myself, I can affirm that is a great move.

Liam sounds like a great kid.
