You're not gonna get it any better with a change of tuners.

I had an SG with a kinda dead spot on the 3rd string G, 12th fret. Same as you, with the headstock in a wall, the note sustained normally. Well, I changed the stock, Kluson-type tuners for heavy Grovers. The result? The dead spot just moved to the F# one fret below...

I discovered something interesting yesterday. You know how the dead note issue goes away if I put the headstock against a wall? Well, I can make it mostly go away by gripping the neck differentlt as well. If I grip the neck with my entire hand rather then just the thumb and fretting finger it gets a whole lot better
