Nickel wears a bit faster, is a sort of faint yellow silver, while chrome wears better and is a blueish silver.

Chrome covers are available from www.musiciansfriend.com and from brucewayne131. Specify neck or bridge spacing.

Usually cheaper guitars have chrome covers. Personally I think nickel would look better than chrome.

I just want to make sure a nickel plated cover won't look stupid with the chrome hardware on my guitar.  Will it??

That depends on your stupidity threshold  ;D

I have BB Pro's (only available in nickel) in my Cherry Faded, and you can see the difference . . . I would rather they were chrome, or the hardware nickel for a perfect match . . . I don't think it looks stupid, but it is noticeable . . . I guess it would be alot cheaper to swap the covers (like CB said, chrome does wear longer)

but I agree with TNT, that nickel is purtier . . . it 'ages' along with your guitar ;)

not perfectly . . . here is a pic of my cherry faded with the BB pros in it
. . . judge for yourself (at least both pups are nickel, one of each would indeed look very off):

Nickel is affected by your sweat and the salt air.
It tarnishes very quickly. You will need to use Brasso and then coat in carnuba wax to preven this.
All my hardware is nickel so it all is aging and the 2003 57' Les paul is starting to look old.....
If the rest of the hardware is chrome, put on chrome covers and the guitar will look nice and new and all the metal will look the same.

Mixing the two color metals generally is seen in the same light as marriage to ones sister in Arkansas, its ok for those who do it, but the rest of us cringe!

Hmmmmm

Hey Ceebs, what do the children of such a union refer to their Father as?

Daddy-Uncle.....LOL

Tennessee and Missouri Ozarks are the same.

What do you call a fifteen year old virgin in Tenessee?
A girl who runs faster than her Brothers.

;D

I had the choice of Chrome and nickel.......since the rest of my LP is nickel......... ;)

Dear duncle,

Nickel vs. Chrome: Besides appearance - what other arguments would exist for preferring one over the other. People with Nickel allergy could mention at least one I suppose, but since it seems normal to use Ni plated parts on more expensive guitars I would expect somethinng about it to be superior to Cr. Any technical properties of importance - like Nickel is magnetic which Chromium is not - that could have an influence for some parts (PU covers, strings for electric guitars) ?
