Does a LP help make the Gibson 'classic rock/blues experience' more complete like a Tele and Strat or is it all plain bull i.e you got a SG, screw LPs.
Thanks.

While I am tempted to do some LP bashin here, I think that's a good point- they sound great together and you can't deny that both of them are a part of that "experience", if that's what you want to call it. I'm sure your playing style would change and you'd discover new tones, having an LP or an SG to pick up on a whim. Personally I wouldn't gig with an LP because I'm a little guy and they're totally awkward to me, however the ones I've played I've liked their sound (mainly for leads) and they have a different energy than an SG- just like a strat and tele, I would say. I love playing tele's, can't stand playing strats, but everything sounds great in the hands of the right player.
And I think that an SG / LP setup in a band sounds the best- better than SG/SG or LP/LP. Team 'em up and you're talking heavy artillery

i can't agree more with just needing something different sometimes. i have an sg standard that's butter in my hands...it's so easy to play and sounds righteous, always a pleasure to play. on the other hand my srv strat has 13-56's on it...it makes me work for it..... sometimes i WANT to work for it, i can express myself better that way when i'm not reciting something.

Even if the LP bashing was all for fun, and I ain't sayin' it is, ya gotta admit that which burns the brightest burns the shortest.

You got that envy thang right!

I know CB wants to get his dirty tube amp building paws on my Goldtop and touch the knobs.

C'mon CB admit you want to play with my R7

SG 100xx,

So let me get this straight.

Like in Animal House, CB is grabbing his ankles and you are wearing a robe in a candle lit room and swinging a Lester at his rear......God I love the visual!

I don't particularly like LPs for 1 reason.
It's one of the most uncomfortable guitars for me, along with a flying V.
When playing standing up it will curve your spine faster than you can learn to play "A horse with no name" .
And when playing sitting down it feels extremely bottom heavy. Don't let go of it for a second or it will end up on the floor.
As for everything else, I think it's still a great model, and some real amazingly warm tones can be squeezed out of it.
Personally though I feel I'm still too young to mess up my spine..... maybe when I'm older and I don't care as much will I get one.

Wolfie,

Get what? a LP or a spine.... Sorry, I couldn't help it.

I agree on the LP being bottom heavy when sitting and spine bending while standing. Try playing a Gibson Thunderbird bass for a while and the LP will seem light as a feather in comparison.

The V is great when sitting but you have to be on the edge of the seat and have the V over one leg or it will slide off.

The Les Paul was never designed for it's current use as a rock machine. It was designed to be played in the Spanish style (across left leg), sitting down. That's my opinion anyway....... :D 8)
