As above.

I was thinking of a Gibby LP to complement my SG. Well do you guys think its worth it? I just want to increase the range of available sounds within my current guitar collection.

Thanks.

No.
Compliment? I think not. I don't think your SG needs "complimenting". My Standard can give me any sound I so desire..Just set your amp so it "compliments" your SG. It's your money but I can't imagine playing anything but an SG. The tone knobs can usually aid in this as well. But if you must at least you are going to stick with a Gibson. I use to own an LP. Just strap an anvil around your neck while you are playing your SG. Same effect but a better sound than playing an LP.

Shred

LOL.... I've got 3 LPs and 1 SG, and the SG is my #1...... They are all a little different.

My LP Standard weighs 10 lbs, and has a '60's neck, making it bottom heavy and it is uncomfortable to play while sitting down.

My 54 ri LP weighs 8.5 lbs, with the fencepost neck, and balances beautifully standing or sitting. Sustain and harmonics for days on this one!

My Epi LP is balanced perfectly, but lacks the life of the Gibbys. It just seems dead in comparison. It is my "go to" axe for those inebriated, outdoor deck parties ;) .

The SG is great to play while sitting or standing, provided I use a wide suede strap to keep the headstock from hitting the floor due to the neck heaviness.

I like them all, for different reasons......

I am probably going to get an SG std. one of these days, or possibly get into a vintage SG. I'd love a late '60's Special!

Ed Roman has a relatively new rant on the Les Paul:
http://www.edromanguitars.com/rock/lespaul.htm
The gist is that Mr. Les Paul did more to endorse his namesake guitar than actually design it. The argument is that Les Paul is too smart to have designed the Gibson product. Curiously, Ed Roman says some relatively nice things about the SG. At least he doesn't trash it so much as the Les Paul.

If you can stomach more of Ed Roman, chew on this other newish rant:

Ah Ed Roman. He's the Baghdad Bob of guitardom. Gotta love to hate him,

Ah, yes, where would guitars be if it weren't for us living in the age of the Pax Ed Romana? Truly, he is all-knowing. You know, after getting a whiff of his stench, I think it's about time to expound the glories of the Les Paul, just for that.

I'll start.

I once held an LP, and it popped my left shoulder BACK into alignment!

If you're looking for different sounds, you should go for a completely different guitar, like an Fender or such.

If the SG sounds as nice as a 69 hemi'Cuda with dual exhaust, then the LP would sound just like that, except the exhaust would be draggin on the ground.

The best sound you can get from a Lester is when it crackles in the fire....
