Discoloration Problem

I have a warlock 7 guitar rack that I stow my guitars on. I have been told that the rubber on them can attack the finish ion Gibsons. I placed a towel on the bottom to protect my SG but didn't think about the neck leaning on the rubber up top. Funny thing is the only discoloration is on the binding. It has yellowed on that "touch" spot.(after only 2 days) Anyone else have this problem and is there a safe way to take the yellow out? (I know....Pepsodent.)

There is no way to take the discoloration out, short of a refinish.

Rubber, plastic, some painted finishes all give off gasses and chemical residue that attacks nitrocellulose laquer.

The cloth was a good idea.... but storing your axe on a guitar stand is not.

There's a Martin neck, made bad by guitar stand. Frank was able to do an area refinish to correct it. Probably cost... oh... $80-$125 someplace in there to make it absolutely undetectable.

All my other guitars are poly coated and I haven't seen any problem with them. I keep them on a rack because I like to play them all and it's a PITA to go get individual cases out when I want to play. :roll: Just lazy I guess. :wink:

Is there something we can replace that evil rubber with that is nice to our guitar finish?

I got this idea from my local guitar shop. They have these custom made leather"socks" that go over the guitar hangers. They're not that hard to make and I have them on my gigging guitar stand. I have them tied on with dental floss so I don't lose them.

How long can you leave a guitar on a stand(the kind with the black sponge stuff)without a problem?I just use a stand when I am practicing otherwise I keep my guitars in their cases.

Not a bad idea. I'm sure you can pick up cheap leather gloves from Wally World aka WalMart and cut the fingers off,pull out the lining and use that too ! :wink:

The "Evil Rubber" strikes again!

How about some synthetic fleece? I can see that being used... heck I can see my wife makin' em! Slip on for the bottom, velcro fasten on the top... works for me.

There's a problem with leather - with the tanning solutions....
