Frank Marino's SG

The first time I saw him was in '78 when ABC broadcasted abbreviated sets of bands at Cal Jam II. Went to the record store the next day. He has a 6 hour DVD available on his website filmed at the Agora in Cleveland. It's $100 but well worth it.

Did Frank Marino have stratocaster pickups and switch in his SG?

AND volume/tone controls! If they're _not_ 'strat' pickups, they're probably aftermarket strat replacement pickups. Fairly unGibsony, IMO. And theirs too probably.

Gibson has done the Strat-style pickup thing before. I'm sure they aren't actual Fender Stratocaster pickups! However, they are that same style.

In the mid-80s Gibson had the Gibson Special 400 that sported an HSS configuration and a Kahler vibrato.






There was also the SG3 that had three blade single coils:

I agree. The only thing I don't care for is the chicken-head knob. Other than that, I do think it's kind of cool. I wouldn't mind having one at all.

Interesting that both of those have single volume and tone controls, unlike most SGs.

It sure would. Gibson and Epiphone keep making signature models of people I never heard of. Why not do a guitar of a true SG great.
